Marcellus Shale Gas Drilling is an expanding industry. In 2009, West Virginia had 50,602 wells. In 2010 that number grew to 52,498 wells and 2011 is demonstrating even more growth. Currently the state only has 17 inspectors for those wells. Compare that to Pennsylvania, which had 57,469 wells in 2010 with 167 inspectors overseeing them.
